Admission runs from $18 a head at By Brothers up to $18.69 at Pinto's Farm Pumpkin Patch — a real spread, and one worth checking against how long you actually plan to stay. A paid festival only pays for itself if you use it for half a day.

One thing worth setting expectations on: Florida's climate does not support a commercial fall pumpkin crop, so the pumpkins at essentially every patch in the state were trucked in and arranged rather than grown in that field. What Florida farms genuinely sell is the festival around them. Plan around the heat too — September and early October afternoons are hot and prone to thunderstorms, and most farm parking is an unpaved field that turns to mud after rain.
