Battleview Orchards has been operating since the 1880s, long enough to establish deep roots in Monmouth County and a reputation that precedes marketing. It’s the oldest pick-your-own orchard in New Jersey, which means the farm did not reinvent itself for agritourism; it added PYO as a natural extension of what it already does.

That heritage shapes the visit. You’re at a working fruit farm that also welcomes visitors to pick, not at a festival that happens to have some fruit trees. The paths are orchard paths (unpaved, uneven), not manicured walkways. The pace is agricultural, not carnival. If you value authenticity and a connection to how food grows, this is the experience. If you need polished infrastructure and extensive amenities, you’ll be disappointed.

The Fall Menu

The farm offers pumpkins and apples in September and October, plus peaches, nectarines, sour cherries, and strawberries at other times of year. September 20–October 31, pumpkins are available. Apples are a fall staple, though the spring 2026 frost affected many regional orchards. Call (732) 462-0756 before your visit to confirm that apples are in good supply this year.

Hayrides run weekends starting September 27. The farm does not publish specific times (whether it’s on-demand, scheduled, or first-come-first-served), so call ahead to understand how hayrides work and whether you need to book.

The Country Store

A year-round country store sells seasonal and preserved produce. Hours vary: May–December it’s open 9am–6pm (closed Tuesdays); January–April it’s 9am–5pm (closed Tuesdays). This is a reliable option if picking is not in the cards (weather, exhaustion, limited availability) but you still want fresh orchard goods.

Why the Historic Stamp Matters

Battleview has been in the same family operation for generations. That continuity often means the owners know their orchard soil, their crop cycles, their customer expectations, and their limitations with a depth you don’t get at newer or corporate operations. It also means the farm is likely to shut down if bad weather hits during picking season, or to have limited availability if a crop fails—because they depend on successful harvests, not trucked-in inventory.

This is not a criticism; it’s a reality. Call ahead to confirm conditions before you drive.

Like other family farms, Battleview does not publish specific operating hours on its website. This is frustrating if you’re planning from a distance. The Orchard Experience

Plan to walk uneven ground, carry bags or baskets, and experience picking as an activity, not a spectacle. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring gloves if you prefer not to touch the fruit directly. Expect to spend 2–3 hours between picking, the country store, and a possible hayride. The reward is apple or pumpkin fresh from the place it grew.
