Crow Farm sits on 50 acres of scenic Route 6A in Sandwich, the Cape’s oldest town, and has been a working farm since 1916. For fall visitors, the main draw is pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, plus what’s described locally as one of Cape Cod’s largest corn mazes. This is the kind of farm that serves a mixed crowd: year-round Cape residents who know the place well, seasonal house-owners arriving in September, and tourists passing through during peak foliage weeks.

What to Expect

The farm operates as a true pick-your-own orchard, not a trucked-in pumpkin stand. Apples are available from early September through the end of October—meaning you can combine an apple-picking trip with a pumpkin outing if you time it right. The corn maze is the kind of activity that either takes your family 20 minutes or an hour, depending on whether you treat it as a puzzle or a casual walk. Bring picking bags or buy them on-site; wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be on your feet in rows or in a 3D maze.

The 50-acre property gives you space to spread out, which matters in September and early October when crowds are manageable but space still has value. Mid-to-late October, when peak foliage hits, the farm can feel genuinely congested, especially on weekends.

Weekday visits are far calmer than weekends, and early-October is generally less congested than mid-to-late October when peak color hits everywhere at once. The farm’s closure on October 31 is firm, meaning late-October visits are your last chance. Plan accordingly if October is your target month.

The farm has a farm stand where you can buy seasonal produce. Historic downtown Sandwich is close enough for a half-day outing—the town has galleries, shops, restaurants, and the historic Old Burying Ground. If you’re making the drive from the Boston area, plan time for Route 6/Route 495 traffic in both directions. The bridge toll is also a factor if you’re traveling from the mainland.

Visiting a Cape farm in October means accepting crowds and traffic as the trade-off for real orchard picking and foliage. The Cape’s seasonal economy means services and restaurants stay open through October, but convenience items and parking fill up fast. Bring water and snacks rather than counting on farm stand food availability.
