Oil Ranch is the least carnival-like of the big Houston-area fall properties, and if you have been to two or three of the others that is the reason to come here. The list is cow milking, a dairy barn, pony rides, a petting zoo, hayrides, fishing, a train around the property, rope swings, mini golf and tumbleweed racers. No roller coaster, no ferris wheel. For a family whose children are small enough that a rides park is wasted on them, this is a better match than a forty-attraction festival.
The October pumpkin offer reinforces that. Every child 12 and under gets one free pumpkin included with admission during the October weeks - a small thing, except that in the Houston market pumpkins are almost always a separate purchase at a separate price, and a family of two children walks out $15 or $20 better off than they would at a comparable farm. It is worth timing your visit for October rather than November on that basis alone.
First: nobody has told you what it costs. When we read the ranch’s pricing page in late August 2026, it still showed only spring and summer rates - $21.95 online or $25.94 at the gate on Fridays, $25.95 online or $29.95 at the gate on Saturdays. Those are not fall prices, and we are not going to present them as though they were. What we can take from them is structure rather than figures: the online price ran roughly $4 under the gate price, and Saturday cost more than Friday. If that pattern holds into fall, booking online instead of at the gate is worth about $16 to a family of four. A fall flash sale was advertised to start on September 14, 2026, which is the moment to check.
Second, and more concerning: the ranch’s own website disagreed with itself about whether the season was even confirmed. The home page carried an October 2 to November 21, 2026 season with a full hours grid. The dedicated fall-festival page still read that fall 2026 dates were to be announced. Both were live at the same time in late August.
That is not a reason to write the place off - it is far more likely to be a stale page than a cancelled season - but it is a reason to spend thirty seconds on 281-859-1616 before putting a family in the car for a 30-mile drive northwest of Houston.
Read the hours again, because they shape the trip more than anything else. Friday is 10am to 2pm. Four hours. Saturday is 10am to 5pm. Sunday is 12pm to 5pm, and only during October.
For anyone driving out from Houston, a Friday means roughly ninety minutes in the car for four hours on site, and the four hours include lunch. That is a thin trade. Saturday is the day that works, and even Saturday closes earlier than most comparable farms, which run into the evening.
Arrive at the 10am opening rather than drifting in at noon. That is partly about getting your money’s worth from a compressed day and partly about heat: early October in Waller and Harris counties is still warm and humid enough that the difference between ten in the morning and one in the afternoon is the difference between children who are engaged and children who are done.
The November weeks are worth one specific note. Sundays run only during October, so the last few weekends of the season are Friday and Saturday only, and the free-pumpkin offer appears to be an October arrangement rather than a season-long one. If both matter to you, go before Halloween.
Nothing published says whether the pumpkins are grown at Hockley, and we are not assuming. Most patches in this humid part of the state bring theirs in from elsewhere.
