Our take

Bergey’s is a bakery and deli that also runs a farm, rather than a farm that also sells pies, and reading it in that order explains most of what follows. The pies, breads and cinnamon rolls are what brings Hampton Roads regulars out to Mount Pleasant Road. The barnyard, the roughly five-acre corn maze and the pumpkin patch are the seasonal reason to bring children along.

That ordering is not a knock. A farm outing that includes a genuinely good lunch and a bakery counter is a better afternoon than one that includes a concession trailer. But it does set expectations. If you are looking for a large ticketed festival with a dozen attractions, this is not that, and you would be disappointed by the scale.

The Sunday problem

The operation is closed every Sunday, year round. For a fall farm that is genuinely unusual, and it is the thing most likely to waste your drive. Half the weekend simply does not exist here. The practical effect is that Saturday absorbs all the weekend demand, stacking the bakery trade and the farm visitors into one 11:00am-to-6:00pm day.

If you have weekday flexibility, use it. Five weekdays are open, which is more choice than most fall farms in the region offer, and a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon should be the quietest time to see the animals.

Nobody has published a price

This is the honest limitation of the page you are reading. The farm publishes no admission figure for the pumpkin patch or the corn maze. The only pricing language anywhere is a reference to a small fee for the petting zoo, and the farm does not say what small means. The regional tourism pages carry the same gap.

So the cost arithmetic you would normally do here cannot be done. What you can do is make one phone call. Ask three questions: what does the petting zoo cost per person, is the corn maze ticketed separately, and are the pumpkins priced each or by weight. Those three answers turn an unknown into a budget, and they take four minutes.

The upside of the unknown is that the bakery, deli and creamery are visitable regardless. A stop that consists of lunch, a loaf and a look at the animals through the fence is available to you at a cost you can see on a menu board.

Dates are unconfirmed too

No 2026 fall season dates have been posted. The pattern from a past season was a mid-September to late-October window on the same Monday-to-Saturday schedule, with a five-acre maze cut to a new theme each year. That is a reasonable shape to expect, but it is last season’s shape, not this one’s. Combine that with the fact that the everyday business hours are published and the fall hours are not, and there is a real risk of arriving during open hours to find the seasonal attractions not running yet. Reading the season

A mid-September start in Chesapeake means the first weeks are warm and coastal rather than crisp. Southeastern Virginia sits in the path of late-season tropical systems, and a working farm’s field parking and maze rows hold water for days after one passes. If a storm has come through in the previous week, that is another reason to call rather than drive.

By late October the balance flips and this becomes the pleasant version of itself: cooler, the bakery counter doing what a bakery counter should do in autumn, and a 6:00pm close that comes well after the light has started to go. There is no evening or after-dark programming listed, so plan around daylight.

Who it suits

Young children, mainly. The animal list runs to goats, pigs, sheep, cows, alpacas, rabbits and kittens, which is a lot of variety for a barnyard attached to a bakery, and it will hold a four-year-old’s attention longer than a slide would. Teenagers get a five-acre maze and not much else. Groups wanting the property for a bonfire event can rent it, which is worth knowing if you are planning something rather than just visiting.
