Rough cost for a family of four: about $40.00 in admission alone at the posted starting rate, before pumpkins, food, parking or any add-on listed above. Most families end up well north of that once they are through the gate.
Schuyler Farms is the cheapest way into a real corn maze in this part of New York. Ten dollars a head for seven acres the farm designed itself, with hayrides, a petting zoo, pumpkin picking, gemstone mining, fossil panning, a rock shop and the Cornfield Cafe on the same site. Under-3s are free.
The complication is the timetable, and it is a bigger complication than the price is a saving.
In September it runs like a daytime farm: Friday 4-7pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday 11am to 6pm. In October it becomes an evening operation. Thursday is 4-7pm. Friday and Saturday are 4pm to 10pm. Sunday alone holds its daytime shape at 11am to 6pm, and Columbus Day runs 11am to 5pm.
Those October Friday and Saturday nights are when the Field of Screams runs, at $25 online or $27 at the gate. That is a different product at more than double the price, aimed at a different audience, and it is the reason the farm is not open in the morning on those days.
The practical upshot for a family with a five-year-old: in October you have Sundays, Columbus Day, and a short Thursday window. That is it. Anyone who looks at “open Thursday to Sunday” and assumes a Saturday morning is available will be wrong by six hours.
Even the September Friday and the October Thursday slots start at 4pm, and daylight is collapsing across exactly this period. A 7pm close in mid-September is dusk; the same 7pm in late October is well past dark. If you are going in the evening at all, treat it as a night visit — bring a torch, because the site does not say whether one is provided, and wear boots, because you will be walking ground you cannot see.
The cold is the other half of it. Standing still in a Saratoga County corn field at 9pm on a late-October Saturday is genuinely cold, not brisk. Layers, hats, and more than you think you need — the people who regret their coat choice are always the ones who dressed for the car park.
The one evening event that suits a wider audience is the Moonlight Maze on September 19, at $12 — two dollars above the standard day rate, on a date when the temperature after dark is still reasonable. If you want the night-maze experience without a haunted attraction pitched at teenagers, that single date is the version to take.
The $10 maze ticket is honest and low, but gem mining, fossil panning and the cafe are all separate and none of those prices are published. At a farm this cheap to enter, the extras are proportionally a much bigger share of the day than they would be at a $20 gate. Decide in advance whether the rock shop is happening.
One last scheduling note: the farm publishes month-by-month operating patterns rather than explicit first and last dates for the season. If you are planning a very early September or very late October visit, confirm the farm is running before you drive.
